May 19th Boston Trip
Just wanted to let all of you know that Layla is back from her trip to Boston. Things went well. She suffered from extreme pain when she woke up from the sceleratherapy. It was a rough first day, but she is doing much better. She is due back in six to eight weeks to repeat the procedure. She will also need a surgery to debulk her leg. Thanks for all the support!
May 9th Im so excited!
A Newspaper reporter was here today. Linda Espenshade from the Intelligencer Journal. she is doing a story about Layla and KT sydrome and how it has been in my life. Im so thrilled, she also gave me some names of some contacts who could possibly help me create my DVD. I feel so proud and so positive to have come this far. This is huge for those with KT, and to help people be more positive about life!
May 9th Layla's results from Blood test
Before I go into the results let me explain what normal results are. A good hemogloblin level for a baby is around 11. 10 would even be okay. Her level is at about 8.5 right now. She is still struggling with her anemia, even with the iron suppliments. Before her transfusion her level was at an all time low of 5.8, which put her in danger of going into heart failure. After the trasfusion it had gone up to about 8.9, which is a huge improvment. It is evident that she still struggles to keep those levels up with the iron supplements she takes daily. It has been decided that in Boston on Monday she will get a Blood test and a possible blood transfusion the night before her procedure. I will update the best I can, we will be away on Mothers day until next weekend.
May 5th BLOOD TEST FOR LAYLA

Layla has an appointment today to get her blood checked. We will see if she she needs a blood transfusion before her trip to Boston. We have to make sure she has good results so she is prepared for the blood she will lose during her procedure

May 13th 2008 LAYLA'S FIRST MAJOR PROCEDURE

Layla will have her first procedure called Sclerotherapy. A medicine called a sclerosant, is directly injected into her abnormal blood vessel. It will cause clotting and shrinkage of the malformation. The procedure may need to be repeated, but the hope is to minimize her daily bleeding. This is a big step for us and I am very nervous. But I know the procedure has to be done because she has already had one blood transfusion from losing to much blood. Boston Childrens Hospital will be preforming the procedure. I have every confidence in them. They are staffed with wonderful brillant doctors. I will keep you updated.
