Lets Get physical!

Starting an exercise program is always the hardest thing to do. To motivate ourselves sometimes seems impossible. But I am here to tell you that it is by far not impossible. With will and determination, anything is possible. Just believe it! But how do I get started? Where do I start? The good news is that you are are hear seeking advice so that is your first step. I cannot stress enough just how important a daily exercise regimen is. It is never too late to start, and what you do for your body now will benefit for years to come.

TAKING THE FIRST STEP

My advice here goes back to my advice throughout this whole site. Do not try to move mountains in one day. Just like everything else in your life take one step at a time. If you havn't exercised in quite some time you will want to start off slow so as not to overwhelm yourself. Let me suggest starting with walking. Start a twenty minute walk three times a week. Sounds like such a short period of time but really it has great benifits. It is a modest amount. You can increase five minutes a week. Then in week three you can even add one more day. The hardest thing that people face is the motivational part. Most people get an idea in there head that they want to start a physical fitness routine and start super strong by doing it everyday. Now doing it everyday is a great thing, but for people who are not used to daily exercise you risk the chance of burning yourself out.  The great thing about walking three times a week is that each week you can progress into longer harder workouts. You can walk for longer each week, and then you can begin to walk at a faster pace. The key in the beginning is getting yourself in the habit of doing exercise. Don't focus on weight loss, or building muscle, but instead focus on incorporating fitness into your life for very long term.

I DON"T WANT TO!

You have begun your daily exercise, everything seems to be going well, then you wake up one day and you have an extremely hard time convincing yourself to exercise. In fact you have such a hard time that you completly talk yourself out of it. Now what? I am hear to tell you that those days are going to come throughout your life. The most important thing is working through those days. The longer you procrastonate, the harder it becomes to continue your exercise. As an instructor who absolutley loves teaching, I even have those days. I wake up thinking I can't do this today. I push myself through those feelings and I teach my class. I promise you that after you finish you will feel great and be very happy that you pushed yourself. On those hard days your best bet is to invite a friend to workout with you. Knowing that someone is going to meet you steers you clear from ditching the workout. In fact there is nothing wrong with finding a parnter to exercise with on a daily basis. You can help each other reach your goals, and cheer each other on.   But find that inner strength and push yourself through your workout.  Each time you overcome those feelings it will get easier.  Rest assured that those feelings of not wanting to exercise are very normal, and even the most fit people struggle with feelings of not wanting to workout.  Don't give up!  Push yourself through it.  I know you can do it!

Lifelong fitness

Once you have gotten yourself into that daily habit of at least three to five times a week of exercise you can try new things. Instead of walking you can try jogging intervals. There are so many options for exercise. Swimming, jogging, biking, fitness classes, aerobics dvds. Don't be afraid to try new things. Make sure that you spice things up every few weeks so that you don't get board. Try real hard not to go more that 48 hours in between each session. Like I said the longer you wait the more likely you will be to give up. Believe in yourself, and don't think of fitness as losing weight, think of it as a lifelong decision that you have made for yourself. You deserve the rewards, and you will feel great in so many ways.
